SK Tel, Cisco Sign With ON.Labs (Carrier SDN gets a kick along)
SK Telecom calculates software defined networking (SDN) will be the path of FutureTM and signed as a member of the ON.Lab open source project. ON.Lab SDN is an open source platform that will appeal to market operators, the integration of a network operating system (Unas), network hypervisor (OVX) development platform for virtual network (MiniNet) and function-as -a OpenCloud service network environment.
The world SDN / NFV approach is attractive for mobile operators, since a lot of functions of the base station is likely to be transformed into software and sucked upstream in the cloud. When it works, this reduces the cost of implementing the base station and helps speed deployment.
Tendered effort ON.Lab, SK Telecom joins eleven members of the group, with names like Ciena, NTT, Ericsson, Google, Intel and Huawei and contributors.The group is touting another high-profile new member, with Cisco decide it is better to store Enter early.As campaign members of a couple, companies are launching at $ 500,000 and get a seat on the board.
