SK Tel, Cisco Sign With ON.Labs (Carrier SDN gets a kick along)
SK Telecom calculates software defined networking (SDN) will be the path of FutureTM and signed as a member of the ON.Lab open source project. ON.Lab SDN is an open source platform that will appeal to market operators, the integration of a network operating system (Unas), network hypervisor (OVX) development platform for virtual network (MiniNet) and function-as -a OpenCloud service network environment.
The world SDN / NFV approach is attractive for mobile operators, since a lot of functions of the base station is likely to be transformed into software and sucked upstream in the cloud. When it works, this reduces the cost of implementing the base station and helps speed deployment.
Tendered effort ON.Lab, SK Telecom joins eleven members of the group, with names like Ciena, NTT, Ericsson, Google, Intel and Huawei and contributors. The group is touting another high-profile new member, with Cisco decide it is better to store Enter early. As campaign members of a couple, companies are launching at $ 500,000 and get a seat on the board.

HP Slaps Cisco Over New Software Licensing
The simplification of its plan Licenses, Cisco is cleaning up a mess That is the fault of the Company, Hewlett-Packard Agreement.Cisco Systems Inc. (Nasdaq: CSCO) introduced Cisco ONE past week a proposal to license software para disaggregated hardware. Cisco touts plan para enable customers upgrade hardware and software independent of each other, the transfer of licenses for the new hardware and software - alternatively - Improved software never take That Get New equipment. (See Cisco offers a SUS software licenses Makeover.)Cisco Cisco UN plan touted As A License To be fit in the Requested agility of the new digital economy. But he was not impressed HP, Cisco Saying That esta Solving a problem they have created.
Cisco's approach to licensing so far has been a morass of complexity and maximizing prices, HP said in a blog signed by Gloria Coughlin, HP competitive marketing. For a router, for example, customers need to buy a base license, driving license, safety and licensing may differ from export restrictions and voice. Your website speaks of "hundreds of Cisco software feature are paid separately.
Cisco Support for administrative purposes was ineffective, Caughlin says, requiring customers to track licenses and serial numbers of hardware attached to licenses. Not surprisingly, HP has its own licensing model an example of simple and direct comparison that shines with new licensing structure even Cisco.
Caughlin continues to criticize Cisco SDN as a newcomer, fully committed to its owner, hardware focused approach.I've Cisco got a request to respond to what HP has to say, but I have not heard back from them. Perhaps they can not respond to e-mail because you are too sobbing uncontrollably bad things HP said. Or maybe they all went home it was after 5:00 pm PT when I sent the message.
